~Window Paintings~
It is I, a stressed 12th grader, back with more art pieces. I have been doing paintings and such behind the scenes but haven't been able to share here. Without dilly-dallying let me present to you my latest works:
1. Girl Looking out the window
One night I was overcome with the urge to paint something. So, I grabbed my paper, brushes and paint and got to work. I decided to just work straight on paper which is why the scene isn't aligned at the center but just somewhere on the page.
I started the painting with the placement of the girl and the plant. Then, I painted a light wash of gray around them, in an irregular rectangle shape. Over the light gray paint I added the initial coat of the mountains with blue and painted the sea with a darker blue. While the mountain coat was still wet I added bits of green to give a blue-green effect to the painting. After everything Dried I took a 0.3 mm outlining pen and added the details to the drawing. The light bulbs were a last minute addition. I spent about 1 to 1 & half hour on this.
2. Cat watching the night view
I thought it would be a great idea to turn my initial art work into a series but I was struggling to find something that sparked joy. After searching long and hard I settled on a cat looking down at the scene below. I could have done better on this one but my heart wasn't really into it.
This time I tried to plan out the painting. I took a scale and made outlines for the frame, the buildings and the window. Then, I painted a light wash of gray for the background. After it dried I took a darker gray and filled in the buildings. Next was painting the inside of the house as black. When all the major components were set, I started with the detailing. Taking a smaller brush I painted the cat and the cacti on the window sill. To give the buildings more life I made small boxes or windows with different colors. After everything was set I used a thin liner to outline the various shapes and add the wires over head. Since you cannot layer white on watercolor, I used a white gel roll pen and drew lines to replicate rain drops in the light.
3. A view of the field outside
I took some time off from continuing this series and worked on some full page paintings. After getting comfortable, I decided on this piece to end the series. It definitely was a step out of my comfort zone. The final outcome is a little sloppy but I love it nonetheless.
The first step was drawing out the scene I wanted to paint which included the window frame and the lines to separate the different sections of the room. Next, I began painting the ceiling, for which I used a small amount of paint with a lot of water. After that I painted the walls and the floor with light and dark gray. When everything dried, I started with the scenery outside the window. First layer of paint was for the sky and the ground. The one after was for the base of the grass and the tree. Finally, I added the dark colour on top of the light base to make the elements pop out. After the backdrop dried I painted the frame of the window with a dark brown. For finishing touches I tried to add shadows in the corners of the room and the stairs.
