~Watercolor Workshop Part-1~

Image
Hello everyone! Yes I know two blogs in a month, surprising isn't it? Well I just want to show that I have been making pieces even though I have not been uploading.  During my summer break I joined an art workshop to practice my watercoloring skills because I knew I was too lazy to do something by myself. The workshop consisted of two classes per week, for a month, over the course of which I completed 6 pieces. I will be showcasing them down below: 1. Tulips in a vase I really like tulips so I was happy to see that this was the first piece that the teacher showed us how to do. I felt a little out of place in the class because there were only children who were younger than me there. I realised that there is no age limit  to learning something for the first time so, do not hesitate and just do it! For the painting I first drew the reference picture. After that I used a light yellow to colour around the window. Using tube paint is a bit different from using cakes so it took me a ...

~Window Paintings~

Hi everyone! It is I, a stressed 12th grader, back with more art pieces. I have been doing paintings and such behind the scenes but haven't been able to share here. Without dilly-dallying let me present to you my latest works: 1. Girl Looking out the window One night I was overcome with the urge to paint something. So, I grabbed my paper, brushes and paint and got to work. I decided to just work straight on paper which is why the scene isn't aligned at the center but just somewhere on the page. I started the painting with the placement of the girl and the plant. Then, I painted a light wash of gray around them, in an irregular rectangle shape. Over the light gray paint I added the initial coat of the mountains with blue and painted the sea with a darker blue. While the mountain coat was still wet I added bits of green to give a blue-green effect to the painting. After everything Dried I took a 0.3 mm outlining pen and added the details to the drawing. The light bulbs were a las...

~Coffee Painting~

Image
Hello everyone! I tried a new type of painting method. It took me a long time to finish it because I felt a bit uneasy with this new style. The medium is similar to watercolor because it depends heavily on water. After a lot of mishaps and corrections I present to you my coffee painting. I picked out a picture of Lord Buddha because it felt like a nice change and I could practice drawing basic facial features. I first drew out the reference picture in my style then made a dilute solution of coffee water and stained the page. Fun fact: Coffee is used by people to stain paper and give it an old document-like feel because who doesn't love brown, faded writing paper. For the head area I directly added small amount of coffee with my brush and wet it with a drop of water to give a really strong, dark color. Then I shifted my attention to the background where I experimented with the consistency of coffee and water. Some leaves are darker and some are lighter due to the amount of...

~Acrylic Paintings~

Image
Hello everyone! I have finally made some more art. This time I have tried acrylic painting on tiny canvases. I made a set of flower paintings, each quite different from the other.  ~Pink Tulips~ The first one is a bunch of pink tulips. This was my first time painting on a canvas and it was a nice learning experience. It doesn't look too bad. At first I did a white base on which I mixed a little bit of sap green to create the background color. After it dried, I made lines with sap green which are the stems of the flower. Initially, for the buds I used a soft pink colour, as background. After the first layer dried, I went over it with white and pink repeatedly to create the effect.  ~Orange Poppies~ The second painting took a lot of time and effort to make. This must be why it turned out so well. The background on this is simply a base of white mixed with some blue.  After the background dried, I made some basic shapes in the position of the flowers. While that dr...

Hello everyone! It is the most stressful time of the year...exam season. There is so much studying to do. Practicing art can be time-consuming. This is why I made mini doodles. They were fun to make and gave me a good excuse to take breaks from studying. The following pictures are for a closer look at the good ones :p . ~Watercolor Scenery~

Image
Hello! I mostly wrote this blog post before my exams but forgot to post it earlier hence this is being uploaded with my other post. As you can tell from the title, this piece is going to be a scenery. I'm not a professional at watercoloring (yet), but it didn't turn out too bad (if I say so myself).  Blue Monochromatic Scenery  In this piece I have used the blue color family to give it a monochromatic touch. The type of paper used was rough cotton watercolor paper. To start I sketched a simple circle for the moon. Avoiding the circle I added water to the page and painted it a  tint of the lightest blue. I added layers to add hints of clouds. The effect didn't come out as much as I would have liked. I used black to paint the tree on the right. It is recommended to use a size zero round brush but since I didn't have one at the moment I tried to recreate the thin lines with a size two round brush. Next was the land in the distance with standing trees...

~Negative Positive Art~

Image
Hello everyone! Yes I am still here. I have been doing art non-stop but none of the pieces are complete. There is a long line but I promise I will post them in the next blog. For now I am writing this blog on a concept called 'Negative Positive Space'. I recently drew something based off of this concept (yes I completed it). Let us start with basics on this idea; What is 'Negative Positive Space'? - Positive space is the object or subject that your drawing focuses on. The negative space will be the mass of space around your main object. For example, imagine that you are drawing a tree. The tree is the main image you are trying to show in your drawing so, this will be your positive space. The background surrounding this tree will be your negative space as it is unrelated to your object. How do we apply this concept? - Artists and designers use contrasting colors to make the subject pop out. Mostly a lot of artists use the standard black and white to portray this eff...
